Andrew McCutcheon

Andrew McCutcheon
Friday 14th December – Sunday 16th December 7
Andy has always been interested by the effect of changing light on the landscape.
His perfect day has a wild, stormy sky with breaking sunlight partially igniting a panoramic view; the pace of the breeze constantly changing the sky so that the penetrating rays of sunlight play games of attrition with creeping dark shadows.
Experiencing this errant journey of light across a landscape, which provokes both conflict and alliance, is the essential starting point for his work.
Frantically undertaken drawings and colour references are made - his own form of shorthand - to serve merely as prompts. Paintings are usually undertaken on the floor and he make inroads from all four sides with a combination of quick dynamic brush strokes and gestural movements. Pouring, then smearing the paint with his hands, layering glazes of ink, scratching back or dispersing paint with bleach provide surface variation. Shapes emerge and colours interact to recapture the immediacy of that initial sensation.
Open Friday - Sunday 10am-6pm

Dydd Gwener Rhagfyr 14eg - Dydd Sul Rhagfyr 17eg
Mae gwaith Andy wedi ei symbylu gan effaith newidiaeth golau ar y tirlun.
Profai taith golau ar draws y tirlun, mae’n ddechreubwynt hanfodol i’w waith a mae’r tirlun Cymreig yn enwedig y Tywi, Garn Goch a’r olygfa o amgylch Rhandirmwyn yn ffynhonell o ysbrydoliaeth cyson.

Gwnai gyfeiriadau lliw, lluniau llawfer yn ei ffordd ei hun i weini fel awgrymiad. Peintiau fel arfel ar lawr gan fod cyrch wedi eu gwneud o bedair ochr wedi eu cyfuno gyda symudiadau cyflym grymus. Arllwys ac yna rhwbio’r paent gyda’i ddwylo, haenau o inc, crafu neu wasgaru paent a cannu i amrywio’r arwyneb. Ymddangosai siapau a’r cyfuniadau lliw er mwyn ail-ddal digyfryngedd y profiad gwreiddiol.

Ar agor 10 y bore - 6 yr hwyr Dydd Gwener-Dydd Sul
